There’s a time and a place for it, and that’s in the gym after a work-out, Sweat may be useful as your body’s method of keeping cool, but there are times when you need to find ways of keeping it under control. So whether it’s a date night, job interview or just a night out with the lads, here are a few tips on avoiding looking – and smelling – like the rugby team’s changing room after a match!
1. Dress Smart
No, we don’t mean a shirt and tie like your Granddad. Think about where you’re going and what is suitable to wear. You also need to think about the weather and the likely temperature. Hot and humid weather makes you sweat more, so wear light and airy clothing to keep you cool. If need be, layer a few thin garments so that the sweat wicks away from your skin but doesn’t show up to the people you’re with.
2. Step Away from the Caffeine
Caffeine is a stimulant, but it acts on your whole body and not just your heart and your brain. More caffeine means more sweating. So instead of reaching for that espresso or latte, try a cup of tea instead. Tea contains less caffeine by volume, so you can drink more before it becomes a sweaty problem.
3. Hot Curries Won’t Make You Look Hard
The chemical in chillies that makes them spicy acts in much the same way as caffeine and will make you sweat. The hotter the chilli or the curry, the greater the effect, So if you opt for the vindaloo and end up looking like you’ve just run the marathon, don’t say you weren’t warned!
4. Grease Is the Word
Yes, your hair can make you sweaty and spotty too. Well, actually it’s the product you use on your hair that can. Waxes and gels are best avoided, with hair and beard oils such as beard oils by Henry Tibbs offering the best protection against that ‘shiny’ look.
5. Armpits
If you sweat here, you will smell. It’s due to the bacteria that like to grow under your arms (sorry, we know it’s gross) so buy and use a good-quality spray-on antiperspirant before you leave home in the first place.
