Head Shaving Vs. Face Shaving

Most men take pride in their crowning glory, their hair, as much as women do. However, there are men who prefer their head shaved clean, and consider it more masculine and practical. Also, for some women, men with bald or shaved heads are sexier and more attractive. Whatever the reason for your choosing to shave your head, you have to be prepared for a regular shaving routine and the proper tools to do it. Thus, there is a need for head shavers as much as facial shavers.

For head shaving, I am a firm believer that electric razors are the safest tool for the job. Yes, a blade may give you the closest shave possible, which also means longer interval between shaves. However, electric razors are the more practical, safer and more comfortable choice.

Head Shaving Vs. Face Shaving

Difference between Head and Face Shaving

It is important to note, though, that head shaving isn’t as simple as face shaving. For one, the surface of the head is different from that of the face. The head obviously has a larger surface area that’s spherical and with more hair. The face, on the other hand, is mostly flat except for the jawline going down the neck. Also, with the head, most of the area to be shaved is not easily seen even with a mirror. You would have to rely on your hands to guide you along the contours of your head. Which is not the case with shaving your beard, where you can just stay in front of the mirror and everything will be visible and within reach of your hands and razor.

What to Consider When Choosing A Shaver

With these differences in mind, when choosing a shaver for use on you head the following should be taken into consideration:

1. The shaver should be one that can cover a larger area and at the same time be able to follow the contours of the head.

2. It should be ergonomically designed so that you can easily reach for the back of your head while holding the razor and shave your head without having to turn the razor awkwardly in your hand.

With these two basic criteria, the Skull and Face Electric Shaver is the best candidate for the job. Its ergonomic handle design allows for easy manipulation of the shaver – with your palm facing your head. This means you can easily feel and follow the contours of your head and shave properly without your hands and wrists getting into awkward, uncomfortable angles. Plus, it features five rotary shaving heads that makes you shave your head in a circular motions, covering a large surface in a shorter amount of time. Other shavers with vertical handles simply can not do the same for you. Also, not only is it effective in head shaving, it can also work well on your face.

However, to be honest, this is not the best shaver for your face. There are far more effective electric razors that are best used in shaving facial hair that can also be used for the head – both in the foil type and the rotary type.

Foil and Rotary Shavers

The Panasonic ES-LA63-S Arc4 is one of the foil types that has been reaping great reviews as a face and head shaver. It boasts of its four-blade cutting system and 30-degree nano blades that effectively cover a large area with its 14,000 cycles per minute motor. Another good model that’s also affordable is the Panasonic ES8243-A Arc4. Like the former model, it also has a four-blade cutting system and a relatively powerful 13,000 cpm motor.

However, if you prefer a rotary shaver, you will have the advantage of covering a larger surface in a shorter amount of time. A good model is the Philips Norelco 1150X SensoTouch 2D, which is affordable and has a three-blade cutting system that has the ability to follow the contours of your skin. A more expensive version – and more efficient at the same time, is the Philips Norelco 1250 SensoTouch 3D. Its features are similar to that of the former, but on a more powerful scale, thus the difference in price.

These are just some of the considerations and recommendations for choosing the best shaver for your head and face. While there are a lot more models and brands to choose from, you should be critical of their performance as well as the value for money. Making a good investment in these shaving tools will ultimately benefit you in the long run.
